We had an amazing stay!
5 stars- great location close to town
Excellent place. Exactly as advertised.
Clean and comfortable, was perfect for a quick getaway with family. Would recommend!
My family and I had a wonderful stay at this incredible property. We enjoyed being able to see all of the island has to offer, while just being a very short drive from the beach and bustling Edgartown. The property was spotless, and extremely comfortable for our group. I would highly recommend this property, and our family is already eager, and hopeful to return next summer. Thank you Platt & Team!
Had a great 6 night stay at the house with family. House perfect for 2 adults and 2 kids. New construction great hvac system and kitchen had everything to make meals at home. No issues. Would stay again
We stayed 4 nights as a family of 3, couldn’t be happier. The house was extremely clean and functional for what we were looking for
Beautiful home. Perfectly maintained and impeccably clean with a well equipped kitchen. Great proximity to the bike path. It was a hot weekend and we really appreciated the center air! Highly recommend.
Great place. Location was perfect to Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. Definitely would return.
We had a great time and the house was well maintained.
Perfect stay for our family! The location felt very private for a guest house, and was a short drive to everywhere we wanted to go. House was very clean and had everything we needed. We will definitely be back!
Thank you so much for sharing your home! We will definitely repeat, if available!
Home is new and in perfect condition. There is privacy and a nice layout with 2 bedrooms and a second bathroom in the 2nd floor. The yard is spacious and there is ample privacy.
Thanks for a great stay! Everything was wonderful and exactly as described. Would definitely stay here again.
House was really great, all key amenities, great layout, no problems. Location near Edgartown was good. Only issue we had was finding the place at night, mainly because of difficulty seeing the 44 and the guesthouse being behind accessed by the small parallel driveway beside the one to house 44. Would not have been a problem in daytime...
Private location. Every amenity needed. Beautiful yard. Close to Edgartown, without being in town. Clean house.
This guest house was perfect for our family of 4 with 2 young kids. It was spotless when we arrived and everything was exactly as shown in the pictures. The kitchen was well stocked and the laundry was a huge bonus. The outdoor shower had great water pressure as well. I would stay here again.

We had the best time at this beautiful house! It was so clean and had everything that we needed. The house itself is gorgeous and the backyard is meticulously maintained. It’s also super close to everything. We loved our time there so much, we will definitely be back again in the future.
We had a wonderful stay and will be happy to come back again soon!
My kids and I really loved this house. It was so beautiful, was extremely clean, close to everything on the island, and had everything that we needed. Everyone we talked to was so lovely. I would absolutely rent this house again! We made a lot of wonderful memories.
Thanks for a great week - Awesome house for family fun!
We loved being so close to the beaches and downtown Edgartown!
The place was very nice and location between OB and Edgartown is great.
Excellent property and location, great amenities, quiet and private and completely separate from main house on property, easy access to Edgartown and Oak Bluffs and beaches. Highly recommend!
We had a lovely stay! Everything was clean, new and comfortable. While the house is part of a shared property, we had plenty of privacy. It was also great to be conveniently located close to Edgartown and not too far from Oak Bluffs. We'd love to come back next year!
We had a wonderful experience, the house was in a great location, private and just out of town. The home was very clean and well equiped! We are looking to return and enjoy the Island life again!
This was the perfect house for our family. Nice private space for BBQ and cornhole. Cool nature trail from gate in the back yard. Neat, clean, and everything was comfy. Great house to come home to after a day of adventure.
Great!
This Airbnb was perfect for our stay! The apartment was spotless, had everything we needed, and the location was ideal. We appreciated the thoughtful touches and the host’s helpful communication. Would absolutely stay here again!”
Great
Worth it, totally lived up to our hopes and expectations. Great house, perfect for a family (+dog) and was situated perfectly to get anywhere on the island. We had a wonderful time.
Nice clean house .. would definitely recommend it!!
We had a great stay in the off season. The house was comfortable and clean.
We had a great experience at this home. Thank you!
Amazing house! Open the back gate and you are on the trail system. Thank you for allowing us to bring our dog. We had a wonderful time
Great spot! Clean and well appointed. We didn’t cook but kitchen is well equipped with everything you need. Beds were very comfortable and the location is super quiet. Very enjoyable.
Quiet, pretty nice place, kitchen well equiped, very very clean and very clean outside shower! Really appreciate contact with the team of Vacation MV.
Well location, perfectly located between Oak Bluff, Edgartown and Vineyard Heaven. Clean and quiet.
The property is well maintained and conveniently located between Edgartown and Oak Bluff.
We had such an amazing time!!! The house was so clean, private, and spacious. It had everything we needed and more for the 2 of us and our pup. The outdoor shower was so enjoyable and relaxing. The location was absolutely perfect and we could be in downtown edgartown in less than 10 minutes and also be in the other areas in 15-25 depending where we went. Platt was super responsive, I reached out about a piece of the furniture I liked, and he got right back to me with the brand. Overall our first time on the island was a magical one, and I know it won’t be our last! Thanks again.
We had a fantastic stay
A couple of table lamps might be nice.
The house is immaculate, beautiful, and well-stocked. I would definitely stay here again.
This was a great property located just outside of the center of Edgartown. The house was clean and bright and had everything we needed for the weekend. Will definitely look to stay for our future trips.
Beautiful and comfortable home exactly as described. Had no problems whatsoever. Great location a short drive away from downtown Edgartown and Oak Bluffs. Host was also great.
Great experience here. The house is new and clean.
Thanks for a great place to stay!
The Smith Hollow house is in a great location just about halfway between Edgartown and Oak Bluffs. While it is a guest house they did a splendid job of making it private with beautiful trees and bushes and the house itself was perfect for our family of 5. The house had everything you needed inside and the outdoor shower was great for cleaning up after a day at the beach. We'd definitely stay here again.
The spot was perfect for a quick getaway in the Vineyard. Comfortable, very clean and cozy and responsive. I would only suggest finding something for under the kitchen mats because they are extremely slippery on the brand new floors and I almost fell several times. We ended up having to roll them up and put them aside. I would also make sure to include/note that you do offer beach chairs that are in the basement because I couldn't find that anywhere in the description and may add value to your AirBNB. Lastly, the bathroom amenities were plentiful which was wonderful but critical items were lacking such as toilet paper and soap. Fortunately as soon as I communicated that there was no TP it was brought for us IMMEDIATELY. We were very please with the trip and loved the stay and cleanliness and comfort of the house! Would recommend!
This place was perfect! Right between OB & Edgartown. Responsive host and spotless, beautiful house. Look forward to coming back next summah! Also LOVED having a washer/dryer.
My friends & I had a great stay! Perfect for our quick trip. If you know the area, it’s centrally located, so plan to uber or bring a car to Edgartown, OB, VH, etc. Easy check in and check out!
House was perfect! P
The house was wonderful, exactly as described.zero complaints. Close to everything. Good for kids!
Very clean and good location off the beaten path but close to everywhere you need to get to.
Lovely cottage and very clean. Good communication with hosts and property managers. Enjoyed our stay!
Lovely home in close proximity to Edgartown center. Our host was prompt in his communication. My partner and I both worked remotely and the WiFi is great! The home is new, very clean and well appointed for cooking, bbqing, and relaxing! Things to know: although this is a pet friendly rental be prepared with extra blankets to cover furniture. There wasn’t enough closet space/dressers to unpack our belongings. We are a couple traveling solo and stayed here for 4 nights so we used the 2nd bedroom as our place to unpack and store bags. All the closets are not available for use except for one in the primary BR that only had 4 hooks. If traveling in a larger party or staying for longer plan accordingly. Check-in (4pm) and check out times (10 am) are not flexible and stricter than in other AirBnbs we have stayed in. The cost of checking out late was $100 for every 15 minutes. As long as you adhere to the check in/out times you will not have any issues. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
clean and safe spot
Great central location with a walking trail out the back door. Great spot to explore the island from. House was very clean and was exactly what we were needing for our island weekend.
Super clean, cute home near Edgartown. The home is easy to find and impeccably maintained. They take care of it well so there are many rules and emails and communications so just be prepared for that. A great find!
Really nice place that's well cared for, very clean and has all the amenities you need to relax. Close to town, private, and lovely landscaping. We went over Thanksgiving but imagine in the summer it's fantastic with the outdoor grill and patio space. Only thing we found is that there was no house manual but nonetheless we figured it all out. Communications prior to our arrival were thorough and served us well.
Thanks for a great stay! Sweet house for friends to gather
The host/owners were extremely responsive and were great communicators. They even loaned me a pair of crutches when I injured my ankle and the house itself was pristine.
We enjoyed our weekend at Smith Hollow House. The property was spacious and clean and accommodated our 4 guests very nicely. The outside grounds were lovely, although rain made it difficult to take full advantage. We would happily return.
Lovely time
Pros: The location is great. The property is new. They do a good job of creating separation from the main house. The outdoor grill is excellent. The owners were quick to resolve an issue with the broken ice maker. Cons: No written manual so needed repeatedly to ask prop mgr questions- a manual would have curbed that need. The beach furniture is subpar/falling apart. The kitchen chair cushions are filthy. There are only sheer curtains on bedrm windows so diff to sleep past 7:30. The rules are long and there was a long description about the use of cameras inside and how to disable them if you didn’t want them on. When we asked the owners they denied the use of cameras and changed it on the listing. This left a bad taste in our mouth because why the long description about cameras in use? Not enough furniture for 4 ppl to relax in lvg rm. Surprised prop got such high ratings.
Everything was as listed. We enjoyed our stay and will consider returning.
Comfortable beds, clean place. A great crash pad conveniently located.
Our stay was awesome! Beautiful home in a beautiful location!
Lovely house, beautiful property. Centrally located between Oak Bluffs & Edgartown. Great access to bike path.
Great place to relax away from the tourist hustle and centrally located to visit family on the island. Quiet neighborhood and very clean and modern amenities made this place a gem. We will be back!
Place was beautiful and as pictured. Despite being a guest house, it truly is done so well that you would never know besides the shared driveway (only at the start). Great central location to Edgartown, Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs. We rented bikes and were able to ride to Edgartown so easily! WiFi was great and we were able to work remotely seamlessly (two people on video calls for hours).
Very nice!
The home was beautiful in a quiet area. The home was well stocked with all you need. The beds were very comfortable. If you are coming with a larger family note that there is only one full bathroom that you all share. There is only a half bath downstairs. That is ok - just be prepared to wait to shower. Also, it’s in a great area but if you want to go to the beach you have to drive at minimum 15-30 minutes. The YMCA down the road was a great amenity that is accessible right down the street. The Felix Neck nature area is across the street and it’s fabulous. Overall, a very nice experience and would recommend to friends and family.
I had a week between changing jobs and needed a relaxing place to unwind. This was just what I hoped for. The property has all of the amenities you would want with a perfect location as well. We had easy access to Edgartown and complete privacy. There was an ideal walking path behind the home and we walked each morning and evening. The home itself was cozy with an enormous amount of space. I made use of the best espresso machine I have encountered everyday. The team made check in and out a breeze. I highly recommend this proper fir any season or length of stay. It has it all!
My favorite place to stay on the Vineyard. Dog friendly, incredibly responsive and thoughtful host, and an amazing location!
This house is perfect!!! Beautiful and comfortable and the agent and owners were very kind and very responsive. The yard that has walking trails is perfect to walk your dog. This place is exactly like the photos and description and we couldn’t have been happier !!!! Platt and lira are awesome to correspond with and were extremely kind and accommodating. Thank you!!!
Fantastic house in a great location. Easy access to all the Vineyard has to offer. The house is spotless. We would come back in a heartbeat. Thank you Platt!
Beautiful property & responsive team! Highly recommend :)
This was a very positive rental experience. Besides being in a great location, the home is clean, has very nice finishes and stocked with everything you could need. It is a newer build and well maintained. Communication was great.
This is a lovely guest house, nicely decorated
The Smith Hollow house is a beautiful slice of heaven on Martha's Vineyard. Convenient to everything in Edgartown and other towns on the Vineyard, this new home is a stunning piece of classic New England architecture bordered by a sea of cleverly installed emerald green arborvitae. The home is exquisitely comfortable and serenely tucked away. The kitchen is equipped with everything needed for meals. The beds embrace you gently as you sleep. The sitting room is perfect for lounging or watching countless hours of tv. It's all there and more. The grounds abutt a walking trail for the outdoor enthusiast. Enjoying the beauty of the exterior is wonderful on the patio or either porch. The location is perfect. The tranquility is unsurpassed. The hosts are the most. Smith Hollow House is simply put, fabulous.
Enjoyed the house, and great location. Said elsewhere but a carriage house sharing area with larger house, but they do a good job of creating some separation. House is nice and space works well (had wife, 2 dogs, 2 kids). Only minor complaint (not even a complaint, more of an observation) would be that while the house itself is nice quality, and everything is nicely decorated and looks good and relatively new, they definitively furnished at from the discount stores (e.g., at the level of a Bob's Discount Furniture or Ikea). We (and the dogs) really enjoyed the access to trails from the back yard.
Perfect location and beautiful house in great condition. Communication and process was super easy and everything was as promised or even better. Would definitely stay here again.
We had a lovely stay in the Vineyard at Platt’s residence! It was the perfect size for our family of 3 but could have easily fit more. It was so nice to have such a big and functional kitchen because we cooked quite a bit. The outdoor space was also lovely with the porch chairs and outdoor shower. Would stay again!
Lovely and cozy home. The location is great and easy to get to. Thank you.
Enjoyed this property and location very much and will definitely come back!
The guest house was well appointed and clean. Easy access to the trail system and perfectly positioned to access all parts of the island.
Amazing house! Perfect size for a family of 5, and the espresso maker was an amazing bonus! It’s a short distance into town but far enough away that you don’t have any of the noise from the nightlife. The home was clean, comfortable, and air conditioned! Everything we needed for a trip to the vineyard!
It was a great stay with the family. Lira is an amazing host and we look forward to staying here again in the future. It’s especially perfect if you have a dog, the walkway in the back is very convenient to let them romp around.
The stay was beautiful! We were there for one night and wished we would’ve been able to stay longer!
Great location and very private yard! The hammock and back porch rocking chairs were highlights. The space is thoughtfully designed to maximize privacy from the main house when outside. The kitchen was fantastic and the location was everything we'd hoped for.
This house is by far the best house I have ever rented on AirBnb. Truly a 10/10 experience. We traveled to the Vineyard with 6 college friends, all guys. The family at the main house gave us corn hole and spike ball to use all weekend. The house had an amazing grill, outdoor furniture, beach towels, etc. The house has some of the nicest grass I have ever walked on. We spent the days at the beach, playing games at the house, grilling, and enjoying the island. The house is a 3 minute walk from the nearest bus stop which is very convenient to travel to and from Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven, or Edgartown. The house is equipped with everything you could possibly need for a weekend away. Lira and her husband are some of the most kind people I have ever meet. They were super easy to communicate with, helpful, and most importantly, amazing guests. They have lived on the island for 21 years and will answer any question you may have. I would rebook this house in a heart beat.
We had a wonderful stay. This vacation house has EVERYTHING, and is very clean. Perfect location- easy to go to all the tourist attractions. Highly recommend!
Lovely house! Great location. Would definitely stay again!
Wonderful stay!
I can’t recommend this home enough. It has all of the amenities and small touches you could ask for. The home is in a great location for exploring the island, the hiking trail right out back was also great to take advantage of. The check in process was extremely easy. We hope to stay at this property again.
Spacious, clean, quiet and new. Great basement to hangout in. 2 bunk beds, pull out couch and 1 king. Everyone slept great. Nice green space. Will stay there again.
Great house on the island. We loved access to the hiking trails in the backyard. And it was only a 15min bike ride to Edgartown center. The house was fully stocked with everything you need and very clean.
Really clean, great central location with an easy drive to both Edgartown and Oak bluffs. Functional kitchen was great to have. Nice coffee maker in the morning. Fast Wi-Fi. Nice yard to hang in. Grill. Pretty much everything we wanted! Would stay here again for sure!
lovely clean and cozy home, lots of privacy and very accommodating.
This was an adorable cozy home with the perfect amount of space for our family of five! The outdoor shower is perfect to add an extra shower for warmer months. The location is fantastic-close to bike path to ride into town and walking paths right across the street from the neighborhood. The house itself is wonderfully decorated and has all of the amenities you would expect. I highly recommend a stay here-you won’t be disappointed!
Perfect spot for a weekend getaway. The house was spacious, clean and centrally located about halfway between OB and Edgartown.
Really enjoyed our stay. The rental was both clean and spacious. Would definitely recommend to anyone coming to the island for a visit!
The house was clean and well appointed. Checking in and out was hassle free. The location made it a great spot, centrally located to most major towns on the Island. I would recommend this quaint, newly built cottage and hope to be back soon.
This place was perfect. Clean, great kitchen, and comfy bed. Would recommend to anyone looking for a Martha’s Vineyard stay.
Nice owner, great location, very clean, perfect for our family, close to state forest and lots of other nature trails, close to groceries and restaurants, close to Edgartown and Oak Bluffs
We had a great experience staying at this property with our dog. Very clean and comfortable accomodations. Convenient location, short drive to downtown & farm neck golf club.
Great stay within biking distance of edgartown and other villages. Would stay here again.
Clean house, great location, super nice owners
Wonderful accessibility to a nature preserve right behind the property, and the Audobon preserve is just across the street. Modern house with all the amenities. Property owners are unobtrusive and respectful of privacy. Worth checking out for a couple or small family.
Very clean - nice place but wish they had regular cable as promised in the ad. I was handed a cable box at one point to reconcile the situation but they didbt have the proper cables to install. The AC was also broken upstairs but overall a nice spot and very happy they are dog friendly
The property owner clearly put thought into creating a welcoming space for guests. The home is perfect for a small family. We’ve been renting in the Vineyard for years and it’s often hit or miss. Not this time! Special features made it extremely comfortable and convenient. Access to a washer and dryer and plentiful “new” bath and beach towels mean you don’t have to pack as much for a long stay. The location is perfect. We could get anywhere on the island easily and private parking is a huge plus. When we had questions, the owner responded immediately. We couldn’t ask for more!
Wonderful brand new guest house. 4 of us stayed for a week. Great location just outside town, highly recommend renting bikes- Edgartown is a short ride on nearby bike path. Even though it's a guest house, the hedges and site layout provide pretty good privacy from main house. Nice private patio area with grill, Edgartown Meat & Fish market is just up road with lots of great stuff. Rear abuts woods with miles of walking paths. Would definitely return.
Great
Perfect for my family of 5. Immaculate and well appointed.
Beautiful and spacious home in a perfect location
This property was amazing. Soooo clean...they thought of everything to make our stay perfect. Stocked with amenities, towels, beach equipment and laundry supplies. Owner was super nice and helpful. Outdoor shower was fantastic especially after a day at the beach. Highy recommend.
Lovely, immaculate, nice appliances, well situated and comfortable
This home was wonderful for our group of 6 and our dog. Very clean, easy access to the popular towns. We rented bikes and were able to bike to the beach and Edgartown as we didn’t have a car. We also used the bus which was located very close to the house. The host family was very nice but we barely saw them and Norman was very quick to communicate. Would book again!
This is a beautiful and comfortable house to stay in! Private and well designed. My family and I had a great time in the house, exploring the paths behind it and getting out to enjoy Martha’s Vineyard!
We are a family of four - 2 adults and 2 young teens. This house was perfect for us. This is by far the nicest house we have ever rented, and we have rented houses all over the world. The attention to detail is second to none - from the scented candles and fresh flowers upon arrival to quality linens, nice furniture and toiletries supplied by the host. . The house has gleaming floors, modern appliances, lovely decor and two porches. There is plenty of outdoor space and seating. We chose this house because of it’s proximity to Edgartown and beaches via the bike path. It is perfect for young teens. This is a very comfortable house, well stocked with quality amenities in a quiet and convenient setting. We had a wonderful time
Great spot, very new and clean. Awesome outdoor shower. Very short drive to town. Great host.
The perfect house for our stay in Martha’s Vineyard. The house is a quick drive to Edgartown center and off the main road in a beautiful local neighborhood with it’s own character. Norman’s place was spotless, had everything we could’ve ever needed for our stay, and communication was quick and efficient. We will definitely he staying here next time we are in the vineyard!
Perfect place to stay with an amazing trail in the backyard and very gracious hosts.
We were delighted with this house - very, very clean, gleaming floors, modern appliances and furniture and beautifully maintained. Every detail was thought of, from fresh flowers on the table to laundry detergent, dish soap and soap / shampoo and conditioner. Nicest outdoor shower I have ever seen. Two nice outdoor sitting areas too. The house is on a side road off the bike path outside Edgartown. Easy for non driving teens to be independent and head off in to Edgartown or the beach by themselves. We loved this house.
One of the best places I’ve stayed. An adorable guest house with all the amenities. I’ll definitely stay again!
Super clean and in a great area to explore the best of the vineyard
Wonderful stay at this sparkling clean and new place. It is a guest cottage behind a bigger house. Nice and quiet and gorgeous neighborhood. So appreciated the washer dryer when traveling with a baby. Great central location and close drive to state beach. The rocking chairs and hammock were big wins for our family! Would definitely stay here again. Thank you for a great stay.
Minimal privacy from main house, but overall a great space.
Beautiful home. Beyond clean. Very responsive owners and agent. We’ll definitely be back. :)
The guesthouse was cute and very clean. We comfortably slept 6 and really enjoyed our stay. We arrived early to the airbnb and were able to store our belongings before checking in. The location was a quick drive to the beach, downtown area, and oak bluffs. Please note this shares a property with a main house and is not entirely private however there was no contact with the owners during our stay.
very good place, clean and quiet
Captain Morse House
103 reviews
The Captain Morse House is a great place to stay if you have a really large group. There is an abundance of bedrooms, bathrooms and places to sit and eat. We had 17 people and we there was plenty of space to accommodate more people. Having two kitchens was a tremendous help. There was even lots of outdoor space to hangout and grill. It was the best place to make our stay great. And, everyone on the vineyard knows the house by name!!
Incredible home and the best location in Edgartown! Plenty of space for my family members and we created beautiful memories talking and playing games on the porch, spending time at lighthouse beach, boating , shopping! Truly an amazing home and vacation! Great service and assistance with catering and dining suggestions!
We invited a group of old friends from all over the country for a family celebration. They loved the prime location in the historic district and the charming and spacious common areas and private bedrooms, but most of all our guests loved the instant pleasure of such a welcoming environment that encouraged gathering together, camaraderie, and new and renewed special friendships. We would not hesitate to rent again, and our guests mentioned at our family celebration in the House’s beautiful backyard that they were already thinking about hosting a similar event at the Capt. Morse House soon.
The property was nice with lots of charm. It was well maintained, convenient for shopping, eating, and all attractions. Platt was welcoming, responsive, and he made sure everything was right. It was another memorable vacation at the Vineyard.
Beautiful, clean, spacious with all the amenities you can think of. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The home is huge and well stocked with everything one could need. It feels like a step back in time and yet has all the modern necessities. We loved exploring the many bedrooms on 3 levels! We enjoyed family dinners indoors and out and evening game nights in the front living room. We could walk to the beach and restaurants easily. It was a perfect week!
Property was amazing and very well stocked with anything you could think of. Our host was very attentive to our needs. Location is simply perfect. Would come back again without hesitation. A
The Captain Morse House's location made out stay last year worth it! Not only is it walking distance from all the amazing restaurants and shops but it is also large enough to house a full troop of people while still feeling as if you have enough space and not on top of each other. Norm was an amazing host so helpful and very gracious on check in and check out. We truly had the best experience here and would recommend it to anyone!
The ship captain’s house is elegant and welcoming if you appreciate an atmosphere of yesteryear. It is like staying in your grandmother’s house just as she left it, except she fortunately had modern beds and an up to date, well stocked kitchen, actually 2 kitchens. We love that atmosphere and our children do as well, so everyone was happy. We were there in Winter and heating was satisfactory, so we cannot speak to Summer conditions. The house is lovely and charming and the only short coming was parking. The driveway can take 2 cars, one behind the other, which presents an inconvenience so the second car we had parked on the street. Fortunately in 2 weeks in December it never got a parking ticket for overnight parking which the sign says is prohibited. Old New England village not designed to accommodate automobiles. On that subject walking to the commercial center of Edgartown for restaurants and shops is likewise charming day and evening. Our family walked to restaurants, shops and the movie theater. How old fashioned, nice and healthful.
We had 3 generations of our family staying in the house over an Oct. holiday weekend- 14 adults/9 children and it was absolutely perfect! The location is superb, the spaces inside were great for small gatherings and conversations, and the children loved playing hide and seek in this grand old house. The host was most accommodating and we could not have asked for a better stay! HIGHLY recommend!
The Captain Morse House is a lovingly restored home in a fabulous location. The house mixes historic charm with beautifully updated amenities including kitchens & bathrooms. All of the rooms are spacious and comfortable for gathering. The kitchens are fully-equipped including outdoor gas grills. The backyard is beautiful with a lush lawn, flowerbeds and outdoor dining tables. I rented both wings for a large family gathering. The accommodations were so comfortable and in good order that it made the weekend effortless and enjoyable for everyone. Having the house walking distance to town was an added bonus. This was my first time renting on MV and I will definitely return to the Captain Morse House.
We hosted a 70th Birthday Party. We invited friends and family to spend the weekend with us to celebrate this milestone. Everyone loved the property. It had everything we needed; plenty of places to gather, eat and walking distance to downtown Edgartown. It was March so it was cold and windy. The house has so much character, history and lovely little extras you have to experience. A wonderful experience.
Good morning I wanted to let you know that we had the most wonderful time with our family last week. We all just absolutely loved our little getaway.
Our family (20 of us) had a lovely week on Martha’s Vineyard staying at the Captain Morse House. The house was excellent, in a great location and fit our family’s needs perfectly. We highly recommend staying there.
We spent 2 wonderful weeks at this amazing historical home. Platt, the owner, is so easy to get in touch with and so helpful The house was unbelievably well equipped with everything you could possibly need from the basics to bicycles and everything in between. There was absolutely itching we needed for our two week family stay that wasn’t there!! We’d highly recommend it for any type of event and hope to return again and again!
This house has everything you could possibly need from stemware to bicycles and all in between. A fantastic family vacation house especially over the 4th of July as right on the parade route. We definitely recommend and hope to be back many more times!! Owner extremely easy to contact and very helpful throughput our stay.
Great place in a great location
My family and I go to the vineyard every winter, and it’s always a great time. We usually stay at hotels but we really wanted to be together this time. We found the Captain Morse house and I could not be more thankful! Our weekend was everything we’d thought it would be and more. This house extremely homey and comfortable! We never wanted to leave! There were great paths for our annual night walk (yes, we walk in winter 😅) we were in walking distance to some amazing coffee shops and diners, and the kids had a ball during our dance party with all the cousins, aunts, and uncles! Above all I have to say, the management was the best part! You can stay at a place that has everything you need and more, but if the people running it aren’t accommodating or lack communication, you’d never want to go there again! This team went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and we were comfortable! They responded to a late night request as well which was very impressive! Safe to say…. We will be back next February! Thank you so much!!! The Crafts Family
Everything was spot on, from the logistics to the property itself. A real MV experience in all the best of ways.
For the ultimate MV experience, stay here and bring some family with you. Everything about the property is wonderful. The rest of your stay is up to you - and Mother Nature!
We had 8 people stay at this house for a wedding and it couldn't have been nicer. We could have fit more people in but some people dropped out at the last second. Tim was very helpful when we moved in and everything went smoothly. What a charming house and such a great location! I highly recommend this house.
Excellent
Lovely historic house in an excellent location. The host was great and very helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.
We are a family of 17 adults and 10 children (two age 2). We rented Captain Morse House for a five-day family reunion for its many bedrooms and large back yard. All we (thought we) needed were those two things... On our arrival, imagine our delight at all the special "touches" and fabulous extras that came with this amazing old house: the huge laundry room (with four washing machines???), the fully-stocked kitchens with every known gadget and appliance, the excellent wifi, the enormous box of beach toys and umbrellas on the patio, eight (Maybe ten? Lost count) working bicycles, extra puzzles and games scattered throughout the house...and special Captain Morse monogrammed BATHROBES in every bedroom! Yes, the stairs are kind of steep (but after a little practice, even our two-year-olds mastered them); and, yes, the house has some little quirks. But by the end of our stay, we were all thoroughly, THOROUGHLY in love with Captain Morse and absolutely HATED to leave! A singularly fabulous and memorable event in the life of our family on Martha's Vineyard, made possible by this extraordinary home. Highest possible recommendation!
The Capt Morse House was perfect for our family wedding weekend. Beautiful house in a great location. We walked to shops , restaurants and lighthouse/beach. We also spent a lot of time outside in the backyard playing frisbee golf and eating meals on the outdoor terrace. Gorgeous views of water from windows and balconies. We had a GLORIOUS stay at The Capt Morse House and would highly recommend!
A big beautiful house that accommodated our whole family.so great to be together and not have to make arrangements where to meet, when to meet, we were all together. Such pleasant surroundings significant of the area. Beautifiifilly decorated and you could find new things each day that you hadn’t discovered the day before.the yard was perfect with frisky, tables and chairs. Complete in every way !
Perfect
We had a lovely vacation staying at the Captain Morse House. The home is in an ideal location in Edgartown, close enough to the shops and restaurants, but far enough away from the excitement of the center of town. We walked to the beach every day and enjoyed spending time on the outside patio. The kitchens came fully stocked with high quality equipment to help you make a great meal. The house was full of history and charm as was the neighborhood. We couldn’t have been happier with our stay.
The Captain Morse House was lovely and in a perfect location in Edgartown. The kitchens were well stocked, the yard and patio were beautiful, and the house was full of charm and history. I highly recommend staying here.
The house is a step back in time but still has modern luxuries and plenty of space and rooms to spread out or be together. The house has everything you could need, and the location couldn't be better for a walk to the charming shops and eateries or to check out the docks.
We'd not hesitate for a moment before returning. Our group was adult siblings, spouses, and young children. The house (we had both wings) was perfect for us. There was space to spread out--adults could be in the front living rooms while kids enjoyed feeling independent in the back. Two kitchens avoided any crunches of space. Bedrooms galore provided great flexibility. A short walk to Lighthouse Beach or to town provided perfect outings. And, used to living ourselves in a house of a similar era (early 1800s) with English antiques accented by China Trade pieces, we felt perfectly at home. The house clearly has a force field around it that avoids "beach house kitsch." It's just charming. And three big cheers for the Heidi, the manager. On top of providing a wonderful welcome when we arrived, she hit true heroics at 10:45am on New Year's Day when she answered our call on the first ring and arrived at the house within minutes and jumped our car, the battery of which had died, in time to make our boat off-island. That is truly above and beyond.

The Captain Morse House was the perfect accommodation for our large extended family visiting MV for a wedding. There are so many BR’s and bathrooms to choose from, we were able to assign couples and singles perfectly. The home is beautifully decorated and well stocked. We found ourselves shifting from one room to another to get the full experience. The owner and the caretaker are very responsive and friendly.
The Seacoast Properties team rented the Captian Morse house for a work retreat and the space could not have been more perfect! There was plenty of sleeping accommodations for everyone, two large meeting spaces, two kitchens (one which we used for snacks / coffee / etc and one which was used by the caterers to prepare meals), speakers throughout for music, a large TV with HDMI hookup for presentations, and an amazing downton Edgartown location. We could not have been more pleased!
The house is lovely through and through. Favorite spot was breakfast and cocktails on the spacious front porch that faces North Water Street. Everyone who strolls past looks at you longingly - they want to be on that beautiful porch! We had a large group and used the two kitchens with chefs coming in every night for meals. The space in the backyard was perfect for group activities (yoga). All the amenities were perfect - beach chairs, beach towels, bikes, helmets, beach towels, yoga mats, etc. Really can't say how special the accommodations were and the location was the icing on the cake. You can walk to the beach at the Edgartown Light, take the ferry to Chappaquiddick, bike to Morning Glory Farm, or walk to town within minutes.
We rented the Morse House for a week for a combination company work and fun event. It was great for both! Plenty of space for individuals to gather in large and small groups or to work individually. Similarly, when we put the work away, the house was great for fun too with rooms to hang out in, a great patio and backyard, as well as all that Edgartown had to offer just a short walk away. We would definitely rent again!
We just hosted a wedding June 5th on MV. The bridesmaid party stayed at the Captain Morse House and ultimately the ceremony was moved to the garden 2 wweeks before the ceremony due to Covid. Platt was absolutely fabulous in allowing us to host the ceremony with such short notice. His website is so complete with all the necessary information from vendors, insurance, town permits, parking, tours etc. as a result the quick change for our ceremony was very easy. This same information is also extremely helpful for enjoying the entire island if you are visiting for fun. The house is fully equiped, right in the center of town, bicycles and parking available. Beautiful porches for people watching going to and from town while sipping on a cocktail. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay and loved Edgartown a very special town. The Captain Morse House is one of the very special homes right in town. A win win!!!!! Joan P
Very well out-fitted house with all necessary amenities including bbq, beach towels, games, internet, printer, & cooking utensils.
Very well appointed house. We were a family gathering of 16 adults & 3 infants. The house had nearly anything you could want for serious chefs, utensils, 2 dishwashers, 2 bbqs, bicycles, tv subscriptions, spare spare computer screen, 2 large outdoor dining tables, rear yard chaise lounges, major laundry center in basement (2 washers/2 dryers), box fans for all the bedrooms plus central ac. All of this in addition to being 2 blocks from the beautiful town center of Edgartown. No negatives
We were a group of 10 work colleagues who enjoyed the house for some off site meetings and fun. It was great for both. Plenty of space for people to gather or spread out as needed. Would definitely stay there again.
The Captain Morse house is a spectacular property for any occasion but, for a wedding, it is even more so. What a wonderful house! Upgraded where it's important, bathrooms, kitchens, wifi, music, and everything else needed for a carefree time and also the house retains the character of the Island with period pieces of furniture, great memorabilia, and a wonderful "feel". It truly is a special house, in particular for my daughter's wedding. We had the wedding in the backyard and the tent we rented fit perfectly into the space which made weather a non-factor. In addition, you can't beat the location which is about 300 yards from the Egdartown lighthouse on one direction and 300 yards in the other direction is the Edgartown center of town. Plenty of parking just rounded out our time on the Island at this special home.
Such a beautiful historic venue, definitely worth booking! Platt and the house caretaking team clearly put a lot of effort into maintaining the property, and we had an incredible stay.
Our family returned to CMH for Thanksgiving after a very memorable 2016 experience. We were happy to see that everything remains topnotch. Despite the pandemic restrictions, all went very smoothly. CMH remains the very best of all the wonderful VRBO's that our family has had the privilege of staying in. Thanks to Platt and his crew for the nice welcome and for maintaining the standard of excellence they have set.
The Captain Morse was the highlight of my Wedding week in Edgartown. It has been an up and down year with Covid to say the least, but Platt and Heidi really went the extra mile to ensure everything came together for Nicole and I on our big day. The house is turn key for hosting, and there is ample room for a large family to spread out and take in all that Edgartown has to offer just outside the front door. Thank you for the incredible hospitality and excellent communication over the past year, Nicole and I hope to be back for another week next year! Cheers, Mike
The property was turned over to us in perfect condition. The House Manager tour was welcoming and welcomed. There is so much detail to the house that it was great to have the House Manager tour. Thereafter, she made herself available by text for any questions, and even sent someone over to remove before high winds and reinstall the flag early the morning after. The photos in the brochure are precisely how the house looks. All of Platt's instructions, while they appear lengthy, were much appreciated. By the evening of our arrival, we felt quite at home. The bedrooms are beautiful and comfortable. The walk to the Lighthouse beach was a daily activity, made easier by the easy-to-carry beach chairs and other beach items. Sitting on the porch or in the backyard was relaxing and comfortable. I cannot recommend the Captain Morse House more highly for family or friends fun-filled vacation week in Edgartown.
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Captain Morse House. The house was large enough to accommodate us all and the house was fully equipped to fit all our needs. The kids loved the game room, the small walk to beach and the nearby Lighthouse. The backyard space was large enough to accommodate us all. The house location was near restaurants and shops and our teenage grandchildren enjoyed roaming this very safe area. Heidi was very accommodating and always available to answer any questions we may have had and Platt always got back to us as well. Everything was clean and well organized in the two kitchens. I highly recommend this house and location.
This is the third year our family, with two others, have stayed at the Captain Morse House during the Christmas in Edgartown weekend and it was perfect for our needs again. Perfect location on Water Street, close to Harborview Hotel, the lighthouse (and attached beach), and Main Street in Edgartown. It’s a historic house so has its quirks but it’s really well set up for a large group, especially a large family or a few families together. We hope to stay during summer one year as it would be absolutely perfect in peak season.
This historic house, located only a few blocks from Main Street in Edgartown, was the perfect venue for our Martha’s Vineyard family reunion. We are a large close knit family of 5 siblings and 10 grandchildren and it is not easy finding a comfortable home where we could gather under one roof — but the captain Morris house was the perfect solution. With 12 bedrooms, two kitchens, two family rooms, seven bathrooms and a big backyard it was just delightful and because it was so centrally located it provided everyone with the independence they needed to go in and out of town easily. The seven bikes that also came with the house and the beach chairs and paraphernalia really made it all very easy. And the huge front porch overlooking N. Water St. made for a fantastic photo op! We all had a great time and loved the house.
Our arrival was warmly greeted by Heidi. The house is just as pictured. WE found the facilities were well cared for. We had a private chef one evening, this was a real highlight for everyone. The location is perfect, you can walk to all of Edgartown and the beach. Manyof my guests collected seashells.
The Captain Morse House is the consummate New England home. It's grandeur is unsurpassed, as evidenced by tour busses stopping to share history and pedestrians photographing continually. Approximately two blocks to everything, to include beaches, spotless town, local lighthouse galleries, ferry, restaurants/bars and bike paths. House is not a modern floorpan. Many bedrooms and bathrooms to configure many different ways. Owner is very easy to work with and returned deposit promptly. House manager was readily available. Would love to have a small event/wedding in this location. Guests would be thrilled. Martha's Vineyard has so much to do, but can be a very lazy vacation, as well. No more pristine town in the Country.
We brought a dozen relatives from three generations to share a week at the historic Captain Morse House. This house is as full of books and history as you could ever want; and the scenic beaches, harbors, shops and restaurants of Edgartown are just blocks from your front door. Every morning we would enjoy a walk to the LIghthouse Beach, and then climb aboard one of the numerous bikes that come with the house. SItting out on the front balcony overlooking Water Street and the Harbor is a great place for morning coffee. And all of us could eat dinner on the back patio together. The house is fully stocked with dishes, two kitchens (which come in handy when you are feeding a dozen or more—two refrigerators and dishwashers were in use at all times). We would love to come back, if we could ever coordinate everyone again. A memorable place to be.
We stayed at the Captain Morse House for a large family celebration (10 adults and 3 kiddos) and had the most lovely stay! The house is situated perfectly between cute shops in downtown Edgartown and the idyllic lighthouse. We loved taking strolls for a morning pastry, followed by lunch at the house and a meander to the beach to frolic in the ocean. The house also has bicycles, which we took out to explore other parts of the island. The Captain’s house was a perfect place to stay -- we got to hang out all under one roof, eat meals together, watch the Warriors together etc. All while having enough space for everyone to feel comfortable and enough rooms to nestle in by one’s self if needed. There are two kitchens (fully equipped with all sorts of cooking utensils, platters, dishes, anything you could want ) -- our family used the smaller kitchen for breakfast preparation and the large kitchen for epic dinner preparations. As for the sleeping quarters, the bedrooms are cozy and flooded with light. Two of the upstairs bedrooms connect to a gorgeous porch which is great for a nice view and people watching. There is also a downstairs porch that was perfect for cocktails and many games of chess. The backyard outdoor space was beautiful -- the tables outside were great for a delightful outdoor lunch while the kids ran around on the lawn nearby. The owners are also incredibly kind and generous and made our stay at Capt. Morse’s house very special, smooth and sublime! We cannot wait to visit again. June 10, 2019
It’s great for family reunions. Plenty of privacy but plenty of room for a crowd to gather. Great location. Clean and very accommodating . Location is awesome. Amenities are great and the owner is lovely
The Captain Morse House is a large, beautiful museum that accommodated our family of 19 perfectly. It is elegant and yet comfortable and each of us found a favorite room to relax in. Shops and restaurants were within walking distance along with the beach. We can’t wait to go back, we loved it that much.
This house suited our needs perfectly. We were able to have a large group stay together but still have privacy. Location is superb.
My artist group and family had a wonderful working retreat at Cpt. Morse house. I can't say enough about the location. It is right on the most picuresque and historic streets in Edgartown. We enjoyed our evening happy hour cheese plates with a cool ocean breeze while watching families stroll downtown. The house was perfect for my guests to come and go with so many different rooms to gather. Its truly a unique property that I hope to return to and will miss the rest of this hot summer!
The Captain Morse House is a beautiful, historic home that couldn’t be more conveniently located to downtown Edgartown and the Lighthouse beach. The house has tons of character and lots of rooms to accommodate a large group. Beautiful yard with room for kids to play. Can’t wait to return!
Beautiful, unique and spacious! One of the most interesting houses, I’ve ever had the pleasure to stay in. Charming and old with lots of character, but modernized in the places that needed to be. Trip of a lifetime with some amazing women, and this house just made it that more special and fun!
The Captain Morse House was an excellent experience for our group. There was plenty of space, it had everything we needed and it was close to downtown Edgartown. I would highly recommend this property.
This home is a once-in-a-life-time opportunity to experience one of the best vacation rentals on the island. My family rented the house in July of 2018 and we had an incredible stay and the memories we made will last a life time. The home has EVERYTHING you will need to enjoy a fun filled vacation. The location of the home is truly ideal with just a short walk (2 blocks) to Edgartown Harbor, 3 area beaches to chose from and a just short stroll to the business district with some of the best restaurants and shops on the island. The home itself exudes old world charm, yet has ALL of the amenities and upgrades that will make your stay a memorable one. The owner, and his team, are there for you if you have any questions during your time at the property. Very nice people and very accommodating. There is plenty of out door living space including the private patio in the rear of the home with seating for the extended family that incudes a huge gas grill, plenty of front porch seating as well with some views of the harbor or you can even lounge out on the well manicured grounds with beautiful mature plantings. There is no need to rent bikes as there are plenty of high-end bikes with helmets in the shed for your use. You will not find a better vacation on the island. This is the one!! #fivestars
My family and i had the most memorable vacation in this home. Platt was great and always available to help. Home is situated in the middle of everything! We loved it and would highly recommend staying here if you are making a visit to the Vineyard. Steve
My family and I absolutely loved the house and our stay in Edgartown. The house is in an amazing location right in the middle of town and within walking distance to everything. The house is very well kept and there is great attention to detail. Platt was an unbelievable host and was always available to take care of anything we needed. I highly recommend the home for anyone taking some time to vacation in Edgartown!
The house is located in the heart of the town and is walking distance to everywhere. It’s an historic house with lots of rooms. Platt couldn’t be nicer and more accommodating. Very unique and special experience. Highly recommended
We spend a wonderful week at the Captain Morse House, which was rented for my son's wedding. My son and his bride wanted a "destination wedding" and the Morse House in Edgartown was the perfect place. We had a total of 20 guests who were comfortably accommodated. Many traveled in from the Midwest and were first time visitors to the area. They were impressed by the grandeur of the house and the many nautical themed pictures which adorn the walls. Having everyone under one roof certainly made the logistics of an event like a wedding much easier. The kitchen and food preparation areas are first-rate. The two kitchens are well stocked with every imaginable kitchen gadget or pot and pan, as well as enough place settings for almost any sized group. One of the two kitchens features a six-burner range that would please any gourmet chef. Although the Captain Morse House is an old house, what is most impressive is everything works. The plumbing is great, and all the showers have an impressive amount of water pressure. The electrical system is modern and unlike some old houses, you can simultaneously run the coffee maker and microwave and not pop circuit breakers. There is a great WiFi setup, and several big screen TV's. We didn't spend much time indoors watching TV as the weather was perfect when we were there, but you could do that on a rainy day. As there is limited parking at the house, I would recommend off-island guests leave their cars on the mainland. Getting around the island is easy using the VTA buses, taxis, or Uber. Once in Edgartown, guests really don't need cars, as there are dozens of shops and restaurants nearby within easy walking distance. Adventurous types can use one of the bikes available for guests to go exploring around other parts of the island. Overall, the Captain Morse House is a wonderful venue for any event that involves a large group of people. It's perfect for weddings, family reunions, or corporate retreats. If you decide the rent the house, I am sure you will enjoy it and the Edgartown area as much as we did.
What a beautiful house in, perhaps, the best location on Martha's Vineyard. The house was elegant but not stuffy, had everything we could have ever needed. Platt was responsive, literally within minutes over a holiday week to answer any of our questions. He even patched us in to a call to the cable company he was on when we could not figure out the tv's! This beautiful home will be part of our lifetime memories! We cannot wait to return!
We had 3 families staying here for the Christmas in Edgartown weekend which we go to every year. The house is very large and comfortable, feeling spacious despite us having 6 adults and 5 kids staying. Plenty of room to spread out and stay out of each others' way when you want. Even by Edgartown standards the location is superb, right on Water Street, overlooking the Ocean and 2 mins from the shops, restaurants, Chappy ferry and Harbourview Hotel. Platt was very thorough with all the arrangements and the property was clean and well-maintained. It's a classic old New England house so take that for what it is, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend it to other large groups and families.
The Captain Morse house is roomy and extremely well maintained. The owner and house manager are friendly and responsive. Our family of 18 enjoyed our stay very much and the location allows for people with different interests to go in their own direction without any problems. The home and landscape are so beautiful. It was so hard to pick where to spend our time.
The house is a piece of Martha's Vineyard history with all modern conveniences of today. We were four families (20 people) including 9 young children, and the comforts that the house offers allowed independent activities by age groups as well as joint activities. Mr. Platt (Its owner), is a very meticulous man who is always available to make our stay as good as it really was. It is difficult to tell in words how wonderful was our stay in Captain´s Morse House. Whoever goes to this house will not regret it.

We booked the Capt. Morse House for our extended family during my daughter's wedding. The bride and bridesmaids also got ready in the home before the lovely walk to the Harbor View hotel--the venue for the wedding ceremony. The rooms were lovely. Everything was clean and bright. The porch was a stunning place for photographs. The manual for what to do and when from the owner was clear and concise. Shops and restaurants just blocks away. DARLING location. The backyard was beautiful. Can't wait to book again.
Our family (16) stayed at the CMH for the week of our wedding which took place in Edgartown. It was a great way to have everyone together. The formal living space and porches really brought you back to another time and the kids loved the large yard and sail loft. The house is a in a great walk-to-everything location and combines the elegance and charm with modern amenities like kitchens, bath and wifi. We have so many great memories and everyone continues to talk about how great it was, it was an amazing vacation.!
I stayed at the Captain Morse House Thanksgiving week with my entire family--11 adults and four children. We had very high hopes for a great weekend and they were far exceeded. The CMH is very roomy with plenty of bathrooms. It is in a wonderful location in Edgartown--beach/shops/pubs /restaurants all within easy walking distance. The house is very roomy and has a number of areas to relax or watch TV. Wifi is excellent. The two kitchens are incredibly well supplied. We cooked Thanksgiving dinner without any problem. I can't think of anything that we lacked. On top of it all, Platt was extremely easy to deal with and ultra-responsive to any questions that we had. My family is ready to book CMH again. I recommend without any reservation.
I rented this home for a mastermind weekend for 8 women. We loved the ability to walk to everything in Edgartown, the charm of home and how well stocked the kitchen was! Highly recommend!
My husband and I rented this home for our closest friends and extended family members to stay during our wedding on the Vineyard this October. Although we are very familiar with the island, the vast majority of our guests had never been before, and the Captain Morse House offered a perfect location, very comfortable accommodations, and so much MV history for the group. The house is incredibly spacious and has numerous bathrooms and areas to spend time, while still offering plenty of space for groups looking to relax -- we had a rainy weekend and our guests loved solving puzzles in the living room and taking advantage of several of the DVDs provided as well. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and all guests said the rooms and beds were very comfortable. The location cannot be beat - a parking space is available but there is not a need for a car if you're looking to take advantage of all Edgartown has to offer. We would highly recommend the property for anyone looking for a relaxing group stay in one of the most historic, well-maintained homes on the island. The owner was very responsive as well - the weekend was cooler than the previous week so we requested a temperature adjustment (it was controlled remotely). He immediately adjusted the thermostat for us and provided a quick text update as well. The house is a remarkable property and all of our guests left with very fond memories.
What an awesome house. Very clean, and centrally located to everything. My family walked everywhere!
I can’t imagine a more perfect setting for extended family to stay for a Martha’s Vineyard wedding. The location is ideal-- only a few minutes walk to all the Edgartown shops and restaurants and the waterfront. The historic house is lovingly maintained, full of charm and easily handled our crowd of sixteen. The bikes were a nice plus and we got good use out of them. Other members of the wedding party who were regular visitors to the Vineyard were eager to come over and get a tour —it is that kind of a house!!!
A truly superb home with all the amenities and ideally located. It was a A brief ten minute walk to fine dining and shops in Edgartown. Staying in this elegant home was an experience in itself. It had all the finery and grandeur of a home of its significance but still fet warm and cozy for family gatherings. Although the home is ideally suited for a family reunion with may adult couples and children in tow, my four sisters and our mother (who requires a wheel chair ) never felt lost in this grand home. Highly reccommend!
We had a lovely family vacation in the house. We were a group of 16 and had plenty of room. The kids enjoyed the lawn and front porch. We all enjoyed having different family/living rooms to gather in or separate to. It was convenient to have 2 kitchens. The house was very well stocked with towels, cookware, dishes, beach chairs, etc. The bicycles were a great bonus and one of our favorite activities was biking around. Excellent location. It was lovely to be able to stroll downtown for ice cream or fudge whenever we wanted. The owner was very accessible and accommodating prior to and during our stay.
This house lives up to its name boasting several bedrooms with fireplaces and grand porches. The location was great being steps from fun shopping and restaurants.
We had a great time, nobody wanted to leave! Superb location for all things in Edgartown, walking or biking distance to most activities. The yard was great for kids and the property worked very well for large families like ours, who included 24 people. Every amenity was provided that one could hope for. Martha's vineyard is a wonderful vacation destination, there are so many options for every type of interest. We happened to come during the 4th of July, and it was perfect. The parade went right past the house and we could all watch from the spacious front porch, and the fireworks were seen from the second story balcony. Thanks for allowing us to use your beautiful home for our annual vacation.
This was our third visit to the Captain Morgan House. We highly recommend it!! Impeccably maintained. Classic décor. All of the modern necessities you'd want- high speed internet, music system, televisions. An ideal location (leave the car!) where you can walk or bike anywhere. They even provide the bikes! There are a ton of beds in the house. Perfect for large groups. We really enjoy having drinks in the large living room and spilling onto the front porch followed by dinner in the backyard- huge grill, plenty of seating and a really lovely lawn. Lovely sheets and towels and robes provided. They think of everything and couldn't be more wonderful homeowners!
We absolutely loved our family vacation week in June 2016 at the Captain Morse House. The location could not be better, with such short walks to the beach and harbor, downtown and Chappy Ferry. And the house is spacious and comfortable, with interesting history.
We stayed at the Captain Morse house for 5 days to attend a wedding. It was perfect! Our room was in the apt type area downstairs, with a living, dining and kitchen space set apart from the others. As the "oldest" in the group, this made is possible for us to enjoy quiet time but also allowed community time when we wanted it. The house felt like exactly what it is, an majestic, historical house. Creaky floors, claw foot tubs, updated baths with elegant touches and FANTASTIC kitchen supplies. It really was a wonderful experience for us.
This wonderful old house was the perfect venue to host my Sixty & Sensational birthday party. I invited my girlfriends to come spend the week with me on Martha's Vineyard. 45 friends came from as far as LA for the party on Saturday night. 23 people spent the night. We filled every bed and all slept well. Other guests were just a few blocks away at the Harbor View Hotel. We all enjoyed Edgartown in the off season. The house is very well appointed for entertaining. The 2 living rooms and cozy study made for many comfortable late night conversations. And the 2 kitchens made it easy for every one to share in the cooking. And the night of the party the catering crew said it was a great site. Edgartown has many coffee shops, bars and restaurants a few short blocks away. The owner was very easy to work with and helpful when I had questions. Thank you for a wonderful time. We will be back.
For a large group, this house is the perfect gathering place. Twenty three family members gathered for 50th anniversary celebration - ages 7 months to 82 years - and the home was ideal. Easily accommodated all. Located in Edgartown - perfect for walking to lighthouse and town. Drive (or bike) to beaches. Owner (Platt) and caretaker (Andrew) were always available (a special thank you to Andrew for his recommendation of a reliable mechanic when one of our group's car needed emergency maintenance).
Great property and location...and stocked with all the 'cupboard items' one needs to operate a household! We had 16 family members, spread over 7 decades, and everyone found it comfortable and convenient! I highly recommend it!
Great location and amenities! The Captain Morse House provide easy access to local beaches, Downtown Edgartown and the airport. We loved the spaciousness of the home, the large and rather private backyard and patio the shed contained bikes and many beach items for family members. There is a large laundry area, multiple kitchens and the ability to grill when you prefer to stay "home". The third floor was hot this time of year, yet there were ample places to sleep and windows to open for cool breezes. Some bathrooms are better than others, but still plenty to choose from with baths and shower stalls. We had a great time!
Best family reunion to date. So close to everything. The house very user friendly and graciously appointed with every amenity. Will be back
We stayed at the Captain Morse House in Edgartown, MA during the Thanksgiving Week. This was a beautiful time of year to visit. It is an awsome vacation rental! The location is second to none as it is about a 3 block walk to town for the restaurants and shopping, the light house, and relaxing views of the water. This is the ideal house for a multi-generational family gathering or a group of friends as the house is plenty large and has a great backyard with seating areas. Plus the two fully furnished kitchens are a nice touch! I would stay again on my next visit to Martha's Vineyard!
My wife and I had looked at several venues for our small wedding before coming across this gem. Once we toured the house and back yard we knew immediately that this was the place. Platt was really responsive to our requests and one time even walked me though how to reset the router in the basement when it had tripped during our stay. He always answered his phone or called right back. The location is fantastic, the yard was absolutely perfect, and the house itself speaks for itself. Absolutely beautiful place and we will definitely be coming back. Everyone that came to our wedding has said repeatedly that it was the best wedding they had EVER been to. He works very closely with big sky tent rental company, they will assemble a beautiful tent including lights, dance floor, electrical for DJ, separate tent for catering and break it down afterwards. We used kitchen porch catering and we were blown away with Jan and her entire team. All together it turned out to be way more amazing than we could have ever planned, I highly recommend renting this house from Platt. We had 20 people staying in the house and there was more than enough room. Bicycles in the shed, huge propane grill, surround sound in the entire house, parking is a bit of an issue but there is no need for a car on MV. We brought over 1 car, rented another on the island, and also rented two scooters for the week for people to take as they please. There are some very old and nice pieces of furniture, paintings, glasses, plates in the house so it's really not suitable for children but we had 4 young ones (under 10) with us and we just gave them firm instructions on rough housing and taking it outside instead, etc.. We will be back, we're trying to get a group of our friends together to make it an annual thing, i highly recommend this beautiful historic house.
The Captain Morse House was a total delight to stay in for the week of our wedding. We filled the house with our immediate families and spent the week leading up to our wedding preparing on Water St. We had an intimate rehearsal dinner in the front room and spent each morning on the front porches (1st and 2nd floor). All amenities that are available make your packing a little lighter. There are fresh robes in each room, towels in the linen closet, and plenty of working laundry machines to keep the place tidy during your stay. As music lovers one of the most attractive features of the house was the built in stereo system with individually controlled room-to-room sound. We could have conversational toned music in each room and control the volume from the wall. We'll always look back to this house fondly as the place we spent our wedding week with our families.
We rented this house for a large wedding party, and it could not have been a more perfect fit for our group. We had 23 people, and the house was spacious enough to accommodate all of us. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated and the kitchen and living areas were great. We didn't spend as much time in the house as would have liked, as we had many activities related to the wedding, so we even talked about coming back and renting it again as a group and possibly having a party on the property. It would be the perfect spot for an outdoor garden cocktail party. Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend the home for any large groups traveling to the Vineyard.
Spent a very happy week in June at captain morse house. It is in the perfect location in edgarstown. The house is charming....very comfortable and clean. Platt the owner is great to deal with. We hope to go back. We would be happy to recommend this house.
I rented this house for my wedding to house all of those in the wedding party. What a beautiful, beautiful house. Kind of quirky, as old houses to be, with doors and hallways pointing in different directions. But I think this made it so special. And it didn't hurt that we were walking distance to the beach and to Edgartown. I loved every minute, and I would highly recommend this house to anyone!
My family and I (11 total) had a marvelous stay at the Captain Morse House. Its historic charm, perfect setting and gracious hosts made this a week to remember. We still talk about the Vineyard and share fond memories, but they almost all end with our fantastic accommodations! I highly recommend it for your visit as Platt and his wife were terrific to deal with and fun getting to know!
Outstanding location. Well-maintained, versatile house in the center of town. Wonderful back yard, bicycles, etc. Our party was large and of all ages....each enjoyed their stay here to the max!
We picked Captain Morse House because it could hold all 15 of us and I'm so glad we did. It is a very interesting rambling house with an amazing yard and location. The children loved picking out their rooms and it was big enough that we weren't tripping over each other. We played bocci ball, barbequed, walked to a wonderful place each morning for coffee and muffins and back in the afternoon for ice cream. We went to the beach, watched World Cup both at the house and a terrific seafood restaurant and the children loved the back yard. Everything is a short walk and the town is picture perfect. Before our arrival the owner sent an e-mail so that we had all the schedules for ferries and phone number for crib rentals. I knew nothing about the area and he was very patient with me and made sure I got all the information I needed. It was a great week and it created some wonderful memories. My four year old granddaughter was very sad this morning that she was home and couldn't go back to the big house where we could all live together. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
We had a business retreat with 18 women at the Capt Morse Home. We could not have asked for a better setting to hold this retreat. The theme of our retreat was to simplify our businesses and focus on the basics!! This was truly the best setting for that. All of our attendees thoroughly enjoyed their stay! The house was beautiful and clean and provided everything we could possibly need! Everyone was comfortable and loved that we were within walking distance of all shops, dining and sight-seeing. This house is beautiful!!!
Great location. Charming house. Owner was very helpful in ensuring our needs were met
We went to the Vineyard to celebrate our daughter's college graduation with her friends and our sons. Great house for this large group! We used every bit of it- big, family dinners in the dining room, games in the family room, a cocktail party in the living room, a clambake on the lawn, coffee on the porch. Plenty of bathrooms for a big crowd. The kitchens were totally equipped for anything you'd want to make or serve. The closet full of beach towels and shed full of bikes were something I've never seen in another rental and wonderful to have. Loved our week here and look forward to revisiting. The kids definitely want to make it an Annual!
This house was a perfect fit for our large family. The two kitchens was a fantastic bonus for the cooking we did while at Captain Morse House. The location was great for so many activities and the public transportation was easy to figure out. The house is so big we were able to stay out of each others space and not wake anyone too early. The front porch and backyard were two of our favorite places for lazy afternoons and happy hour. The care taker was easy to get ahold of and prompt to manage any needs we had while staying in the home.
My husband and I rented this home over the fourth of July for our extended family and had a wonderful time. What a beautiful place in a wonderful location. The parade went by the house and our kids loved it. We could see the fireworks from the house. We would recommend this home for family vacation anytime.
The bride's family stayed in this home for the week berfore the wedding and it was perfect. We ranged in age from 7yrs. to 91yrs. old and had a wonderful time. The home was very roomy and had enough space that no one was bumping into each other and family members to were able to give the bride her space when needed. The bedrooms were all of good size and comfortable. The home was centerally located to all of the weeks wedding events and everyone was able to walk or bike all over and explore this side of the Island. We all were aware of the homes history which made our stay even more memorable and fun. The family members in the home were from Massachuttes, Minnesota, Florida, Illinois and Arizona and it was great to have time to reconnect and catch up on all things good. Thank you.

We had a wonderful stay at the Captain Morse House. The location is absolutely fantastic—right in the heart of Edgartown and within easy walking distance of everything. What really makes the house special, though, is its incredible history and character. Staying in an authentic 1840s whaling captain’s home gave us a true sense of old Martha’s Vineyard that you simply can’t get from a typical hotel or rental.
We had a wonderful stay at the East Wing of the Captain Morse house. Location is perfect, right in downtown Edgartown within very easy walking distance to everything. House was lovely with plenty of room, comfortable beds, beautifully stocked kitchen, fantastic backyard as well as a lovely porch on N. Water St.
We have been visiting MV for 20+ years and are very familiar with the area. This house is perfectly situated! Having a parking space was key because we like to visit different areas of the island. We enjoyed our time at the house. Comfy beds! The only tiniest bit of constructive criticism would be to make beach towels more readily available to the East wing of the house. Apparently the beach towels were located in the other wing of the house. The other thing that made me anxious is that I noticed the soap dispenser for the dishwasher was seemingly broken so I was worried that they were going to think that we did it lol. I just hand washed! The kitchen was VERY nicely equipped, but you will have to bring your own cooking oil. Tru was a great rental and we plan on looking into this same exact house again - that’s how much we liked it.
Best location in town. Most elegant accommodations for sure. Well appointed individualized rooms. Back yard sitting area expansive and peaceful. Well supplied and amenitied. Short walk to best restaurants and beach. Amazing shelling at closest beach. Thank you for an excellent vacation. Your place made it so special.
We as a family all agree, the Captain Morse House is the place to be . The front porches welcome you to sit and stay for a while . life slows down a bit and you can relax and enjoy your morning coffee or evening cocktails . Abundant living space inside and out. Well equipped kitchen and barbecue areas, The outdoor shed is filled family fun activities from bikes to fishing gear. If you are considering renting this place i have three words for you. Go For it !
No better place to sit on a gorgeous porch, sip wine, have honest convo and say good morning to passers-by (yes, even wine on some late mornings!). Lovely historic home. Warm in every way. So convenient to town, lighthouse and Harbor View. Hosts are great!
We had a great few days at the CMH in Edgartown. The space was beautifully decorated, clean, and the location couldn't be beat. Right down the street from the water, Lighthouse Beach, and downtown Edgartown. We would definitely come back!
We had a lovely few days at Platts home in Edgartown! The location can’t be beat- right next to the water, a few blocks from lighthouse beach, and a couple blocks from all shops and restaurants in downtown Edgartown. Platt was super helpful and friendly, but also gave us our privacy during the stay. We would definitely come back!
In an earlier review, I once read that visiting the Captain Morse House was a like a wonderful visit to Great Aunt Martha. In this case, Great Aunt Martha has everything one could possibly wish for; and plenty of everything. The home is beautiful, clean, and ready to go! It is a historic house, and as such must be visited with that in mind. We love historic homes so this worked perfectly for us. We visited with three couples and one single traveler and thus only used the first and second levels. So, I cannot speak for level three. I also must compliment Platt. He is an exceptional communicator and made sure we had every piece of information in advance. I would say, it is helpful to read the pre-arrival information in detail. We somehow missed reviewing that in detail and that presented the need for multiple arrival questions that were easily answered, once read. One fun piece of information is the historic elevator. It is clearly identified as "non-electric" - a piece of information I missed in the early stages of booking. However, it is easy to manipulate; and more than served the purpose of dealing with a mobility issue. In summary, Captain Morse is a large and beautiful home and well suited for either a large family or two or three couples traveling together. Enjoy your visit with Great Aunt Martha!
We had a wonderful and relaxing long weekend stay on the Vineyard! The Captain Morse House was perfect for our multi-generational family gathering of 8 - including grandparents/boomers, 4 GenXers and 2 recent college grads. We loved the location - walkable to everything in Edgartown and also enjoyed walking out to the lighthouse and along the beach. The house was well appointed and had everything we needed to make our stay memorable. Our host was also very responsive and informative - thank you Platt! We hope to be able to come back again soon!!
The property is great. Location is great. Lots of rules for the house because it is an historic mansion. The water view from the East Wing is totally blocked by neighbors trees and bushes. So don’t select expecting a water view. The balconies with Street views are great for morning coffee and waving to friendly people walking by. Loved the free bikes onsite. Greatly enjoyed our stay. But no water view from inside the house or from balconies. The management is off site but very responsive.
Beautiful property! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay at this charming historic house. The mothers were especially delighted, as they were able to check off their bucket list item of staying in a historic home. The updated bathrooms were a hit with everyone – the one with the waterfall shower was particularly popular. Thank you for hosting us; it truly felt like a home away from home after our busy days exploring Martha’s Vineyard.
This is probably the best house on North Water Street. The space is amazing and the location is unbeatable. Platt is also a wonderful host - very responsive and accommodating. If you’re looking for a memorable Edgartown experience, this is the place for you.
The East Wing was lovely, well equipped and in a perfect location. It was very comfortable for our family of 8. We had originally booked the West Wing but it did not work for our family. The bedroom configuration for the West Wing is a bit confusing so I would advise potential tenant to review it carefully.
This was our first visit to MVY. Edgartown was the perfect spot. We visit in the off season so the house was perfect for what we wanted close to town . restaurants, shops and beaches. The historic nature of this home is so fascinating. Platt returns questions very quickly really there if you need him but not hovering. Would stay here again and I’m quite picky.
This was a beautiful property in a prime location on the vineyard. The home is enormous, with lots of room for a group to enjoy. Communication with the owner was excellent, he was very informative throughout our stay.
Property was lovely and well stocked with everything you need to enjoy your stay from bikes, beach chairs, yoga mat’s and pack n plays if you have little ones. We loved sitting on the deck and people watching while we sipped coffee.
This is a wonderful house in the heart of Edgartown- less than 5 minute walk to Harbor View Hotel and the best restaurants and shops. The yard is so beautiful and relaxing. The house has many vintage and unique touches. I would definitely recommend this special property. The host was responsive and helped with our stay.
We stayed in the East wing of the house comfortably with 8 people. The house has nice beds and everyone is provided a plush robe to use during their stay. We felt right at home. We did a fair amount of cooking at the house and the kitchen is very well equipped with suitable pots of all sizes, dishes and top notch appliances. The house has amazing antiques and artwork throughout. We had use of nice bicycles and helmets and used the gas grill a few of the nights. The backyard is beautiful and private and has lounges and tables with umbrellas for al fresco dining. We enjoyed sitting on the upper and lower porches and looking out to the soothing water view. Five stars!
The house was beautiful and spacious. We loved having all ten of us in the same home, without feeling crowded. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook for Thanksgiving. We will plan to stay here again!
Great location close to ferry, bars and restaurants. Very clean and accessible.
Gorgeous home! Awesome location. The best of Edgartown! 5th room is an attic (that’s perhaps best for adolescents) so just be mindful of that. Really wonderful place and host. We would come back!
Our week in the vineyard exceeded our expectations due in part to the fantastic location of the Captain Morse House in the center of Edgartown. Everything was in walking distance and the when we opted for porch sitting instead, it felt like we were at home. The rooms were well appointed and we even had a concierge visit when we arrived to assist with settling in and who came by almost daily to check in on our needs - we even had two bottles of wine ready to greet us! It was these extra comforts that made the stay exceed our expectations. Also, the backyard was huge and that’s something because in town center you just don’t see that kind of green space available for private use. We didn’t bring our pet this time, but understand that the rental is pet friendly which is also a rarity for this quality of a home. If we ever visit Edgartown again we would stay here without question. Thanks again!
Loved the Captain Morse house! Beautiful, clean and spacious! They had everything we needed and made sure we were prepared before we arrived. The host was available for all of our needs. Really enjoyed this place!
The Captain Morse House was very very nice. It was just enough space for our 12 quests to have privacy and also spend time gathering in the living room and have a meal together in the dining room. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed cooking as well as using the grill outback. Because of the great central location we were able to walk to the shops and restaurants on Main street. We celebrated a beautiful 40 year vow renewal at the Captain Morse House. Thanks for the special time!
The Captain Morse House manages to be a big, gorgeous mammoth of a house contrasted by a warm cozy feel that facilitates fun group interactions that that flow through the property. The kitchen has everything you need to craft an impressive spread just off the large dining room, the huge outdoor table just outside. The great room is warm and inviting with tons of seating and lots of games. It fills with sunlight in the second part of the day as do the upper and lower patios that are a great location for afternoon cocktails. The bedrooms are snug and plentiful. Beautifully appointed and well maintained. Will definitely be returning.
I rented this house with 9 other wine professional friends for a relaxing preseason stay. I have never had a better time. The house had everything we needed to make fantastic family meals; although pro tip, look around the closets and drawers to find some key cooking equipment; The closet next to the dining room hides enough coffee cups for an army although we didn’t notice that till day 2. The house was in clean and perfect shape, and gave us the most beautiful back drop for our Instagram bottle shots. Everyone had a generous amount of space to call their own and s disappear to take a nice mid day nap. Cards and chess games made our afternoons and evenings cozy and conversational. We walked to the beach a block away every morning to take a dunk in the ocean to feel even more refreshed. Besides that walk though we didn’t even care to leave the house we loved it so much, but if we had wanted to more could find Edgartown shops and restaurants only a few blocks away. Can’t wait to go back next year and rent both wings with even more wine nerds!
It's a beautiful old house and we were lucky to stay there! Would love to do it again sometime!
Wonderful place to gather with family. Plenty of room. Beautiful place inside and out. The location cannot be beat. A stay at The Captain Morse is a real treat.
The Captain Morse house will not disappoint. We stayed in the lovely East Wing and enjoyed the exceptional detail in the preserved historic home. The owner and property manager were helpful and responsive, and anticipated our every need. The house is situated within walking distance of the best Edgartown has to offer, including the Chappy Ferry. If you are hesitant in renting a historic home, rest assured that you will find every comfort and amenity, including beautiful state-of-the-art kitchen and baths, comfortable beds and even a cozy study. The house is also fully equipped with WiFi for those who need to stay connected. If we could give this a six star review, we would.

The Captain Morse House is one of the grand houses in the center of Edgartown. We rented the East wing. It is huge with a large living room, separate formal dining room, TV room, a full bath, and an amazingly equipped kitchen on the ground floor, 4 large bedrooms and two full baths on the second and a large attic with 3 more beds suitable for children and teens. Given we were a group of ten, we ate all our dinners at the house since no restaurant in town could accommodate such a large group due to COVID. We really enjoyed it and prepared several lobster feats (the kitchen has a huge lobster pot) and barbecues (did I mention it has a great gas grill in the backyard with 2 large tables). We would be thrilled to stay here again and I hope we can.
This property is a large former sea captain’s home located in the heart of historic Edgartown. It is beautifully maintained and has the best equipped kitchen I have ever experienced in a vacation rental. We were a group of 10 friends so we cooked and ate in most days as it was not easy to get such a large group into any of the local restaurants. We enjoyed sitting on the large upstairs and downstairs porches in the evenings after dinner. On cooler nights, we enjoyed the spacious living room. The house has a large, formal dining room that could accommodate our entire group for dinner and there are tables in the back yard which we used for bbq dinners and when we pâté lobsters, as these are too messy for the dining room. Whenever we had the slightest question or issue, these were promptly addressed. All in all, we had a great time and would highly recommend this house.
We stayed at the house 3 years ago for our wedding when we had the whole family with us and loved it! We have wanted to come back ever since so when we saw the EAST wing could be rented we thought it would be perfect and it was! The beautiful porch and large main living room are our favorites. Quick walk to town and beach and even got take out the last night because we just didn’t want to leave this great house for one minute! Plenty of room and privacy and just love the character. The grand spiral staircase makes you feel like you are in another time. We made lots of great memories and can’t wait to plan our next visit!

This is a great house located in the perfect location. Perfect place to relax when not out & about. Everything from the deck, private yard, grill, spacious open concept area, & included amenities surpassed expectations. This home is an extremely comfortable home away from home option.
Smooth as silk.
Great stay.
Very clean excellent host no issues of any kind
Great place in Oak Bluffs, MV
Perfect!!! Great stay.
Great property. Just as described
Clean spacious home for our family of 4. Is about a 10min bike ride from oak bluffs
Fantastic experience working with Platt on this Martha’s. Vineyard property.
Thank you again! Have a great summer!!
Everything was as advertised. House was clean, updated, and nicely appointed. Great location central to everything. Very good value. Would not hesitate to return or recommend to friends.
Best experience in Martha’s Vineyard for the price. Only one bathroom the separate deposit was strange but it did the job for the duration of the stay. Love Martha’s Vineyard i will be back Ty
Very clean and close to OB!
Great space, looks exactly as pictured. Host was super responsive!
We had an amazing time during our stay on Martha’s Vineyard! The location of this property was absolutely perfect—centrally located and just minutes from downtown, the beaches, restaurants, and everything the island has to offer. The home itself was spacious, spotless, and had just the right amount of room for our family. We especially loved the huge backyard, which featured multiple decks and plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. Everything exceeded our expectations, and we had a completely hassle-free stay. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to call home during our trip. We would absolutely love to come back and stay here again. You can’t go wrong with this house—book it!

We had a wonderful stay. The property was exactly as described, very clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The location was great, with downtown Oak Bluffs just a quick 5-minute Uber ride away. Platt was an excellent host and always responded promptly to any questions we had. We experienced a minor issue with one of the curtains during our stay, and Platt was very understanding and easy to communicate with. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and thoroughly enjoyed our time on Martha’s Vineyard. I would happily stay here again and highly recommend this property to others visiting the island.
Muy contenta con la estancia en la propiedad! Buena comunicación! Lugar súper limpio y bien equipado! Seguramente regresaremos pronto.
Our stay was nice with only a few minor item we wanted to bring to Platt’s attention via email.
Enjoyable last-minute short stay. It was very accommodating for 6 women cyclists. I so wish the hot tub was up and running. It would've been perfect after our 50-mile bike ride on the island.
This home was clean and as described. You do need your vehicle to get to anywhere in town (which we had). The neighborhood was quiet and we had no issues. It was nice being able to grill on our first night there.
Well kept apartment, but dated fixtures. Also easy to hear downstair neighbors- thin walls. Close to downtown oak bluffs and without a car, bus is nearby.
Very clean home, walkable to a bus stop, fenced in yard made for a fun experience for our dog. Beds had a variety of mattress softness levels, which was also a nice touch.
We had a fantastic time staying on Inca Road! The house was clean and tidy and had everything we needed in the kitchen. We loved having several outdoor spaces. The location was excellent!!! About a 30 minute easy walk to Oak Bluffs and an easy drive anywhere else. Also probably would be do- able with just bikes, but we always appreciate having a car to get around the whole island. This was our third time staying on the Vineyard and our favorite rental yet- highly recommend!
A wonderful week in the vineyard! The photographs were an accurate representation of the space and we had thorough and clear instructions regarding all aspects of the property. Overall it was a relaxing and comfortable stay!
It was the first time we rented this house and were not disappointed. The pictures of the house are very representative of how the house looks inside and out. It is stylishly decorated in a beach and nautical theme and the fire pit was great with six Adirondack chairs (we had six adults in our party) making for a enjoyable late evening after a fun day on MV. We equally enjoyed the back deck for morning coffees. We didn't cook any large meals but the kitchen was well appointed. The house made for an enjoyable week on the island.
The Inca gardens Apartment exceeded our expectations for an apartment. We were a party of three adult couples (siblings and spouses) and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is nicely decorated with a nautical theme and well maintained. It has a bright, airy interior, and the pictures on the website are truly representative. You should know the apartment is the entire second floor of a raised ranch, and was a perfect size for our party - we were even able to easily navigate the one bathroom. We equally enjoyed the private back yard sipping coffee in the morning on the back deck, and sharing stories of our day while sipping wine and drinks around the fire pit at night. The location provided quick access to either Oak Bluffs or Vineyard Haven and is off a side road with little or no traffic.
Conveniently located on a quiet road between Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs. Our stay was brief but we did receive quick responses for all of our questions.
We very much enjoyed our stay. Thank you
The Inca Gardens Apartment in Oak Bluffs was a dream come true for my husband and me. The location is absolutely perfect; conveniently close to both Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven but far enough away to feel quiet and secluded. It's also walking distance to a small beach on the lagoon that was ideal for picnic lunches during the day. We had to work, which is always a bummer on vacation, but the home was so well-equipped with workspaces, fast internet, and (amazing) A/C that we still felt incredibly relaxed. I spent a lot of time on the back deck taking phone calls and I can't imagine a better office! The front deck also offers a beautiful evening suntrap to enjoy a nice glass of wine or meal prepared at home in the gorgeous kitchen. It was just the two of us, but I can imagine the three bedrooms make it perfect for a larger family, and the fully fenced-in yard is both beautiful and safe for kids and dogs. Basically, the house is perfect for a working getaway. Staying in such a well-equipped, well-decorated home made the days when we had to answer emails instead of hitting the beach feel enjoyable regardless. Best of all, the booking process was seamless. It was a bit of a last-minute trip, but the staff was kind and responsive and made us feel well taken care of. We loved the Inca Gardens Apartment and recommend it highly!
Place is neat with a good location between VH and OB center.
Amazing stay enjoyed every minute! Look forward to coming back soon! Great outdoor space and beautiful home 🏠

Fantastic location for everything in Edgartown. Plenty of space for large groups with comfortable living quarters. The home offers lots of items to make your visit better (bikes, beach chairs, etc). The 3 flights of steep stairs can be a challenge with overweight suitcases but manageable.
Fantastic rental literally 3 minute walk away from all our fave Edgartown restaurants. The kitchen was a standout, we have a celiac in our group so did a lot of home cooking, and the kitchen was pristine and very well equipped, if you need to cook seriously you can definitely do that here (even had my fave instant thermometer!)... The back yard was enormous for downtown Edgartown and full of lovely hydrangeas; we shared with some very nice neighbors from the other East wing of the house. Great shower pressure/ hot water in all the bathrooms also. Manager very responsive. We would love to be back with a bigger group (we were 4 adults and a pet) since the house can definitely accommodate! Thank you, Platt for a lovely stay.
We very much enjoyed our time in the West Wing of the Morse house. It was perfectly located for both beach-going and exploring town. It was well appointed for relaxing in as well. It was clean and charming. We would definitely come back again and look forward to doing so. A great place to come with kids.
We had such a wonderful stay in the West Wing! From the initial communication, to the check in, during the stay and even after we were home, there just were no hiccups to speak of. The location could not be more central. We walked right across the street to the harbor and there are countless restaurants and boutique shops in every direction. We rented the Boston Whaler one afternoon and enjoyed cruising through the harbor. I highly suggest doing that! The West Wing itself is simple but more than adequate. Everything was very clean and well stocked. Martha’s Vineyard is such a special spot and our stay really captured that essence. Thanks for a great stay!
Great location and host!
Thanks for a super experience in Edgartown!
Great
Loved this place! Great location. Easy to walk everywhere and had everything our family needed. The dishwasher wasn’t working and they had their cleaning staff take care of the dishes. Will be back!
Location, location, location. We had a wonderful stay at this Edgartown center historic house. Platt was a great host- very responsive.
We had a great weekend in edgartown, even during a nor’easter storm. Location amazing for chappy ferry and edgartown lighthouse and beach.
If you are looking for a lovely place to stay in Edgartown, where you can walk to shops, restaurants, spas, beaches and more, look no further. The Captain Morse House is situated in the ideal location. After a great night’s sleep in one of the numerous cozy and quiet bedrooms, wake up and walk to the beach, or to Behind the Bookstore for a perfect cup of coffee. The house has so many convenient amenities, including bicycles and beach gear to use for your day’s adventure. If you are looking to just chill in the beautifully landscaped yard and read, or enjoy a nice meal on the BBQ, this property is great for that too. The owner, Platt, and caretaker, Timothy, were both wonderful. The whole rental process is very well organized, not a detail is left out in house manual, and communication with a Platt and Tim is easy and prompt. My family and I had a lovely time staying in the West Wing and would definitely rent again and recommend to others. Maybe we’ll try the East Wing next time in order to enjoy those great porches!
Location, location, location. right in the heart of beautiful Edgartown near all the restaurants, shops, and marina. The house is beautiful and historic, but still has great bathrooms and plumbing. The yard is very nice for relaxing.
Our stay here was excellent. The house is beautiful and is in the most amazing location. Despite very windy weather we were able to enjoy all of what MV has to offer in off season. Great beach walks right from house to lighthouse beach, great dining (take out due to COVID) and shopping all a quick walk away. The house is well stocked and very well cared for and the process of renting was easy and we enjoyed being able to bring our dog.
The Captain Morse House is a wonderful way to experience Martha's Vineyard. Beautifully decorated and maintained, it is in a wonderful location, and just a short walk to the beach + lighthouse, as well as the town. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and looking forward to returning to this wonderful home.
Excellent location. The best in Edgartown.
Perfect location in Edgartown. The house is immaculate, Platt and team are very responsive and accommodating and made us feel at home. I would recommend this home and host to any families looking for a relaxing and care free stay in MV.
interesting with the shared facilities ie patio and bbq but worked fine
This gorgeous historic home could not have been located any better in Edgartown. The backyard and patio were amazing for backyard play & dining. The property MSN’s her was so attentive and made sure we had everything offered: bikes, beach chairs, yoga mats...you make it; this property had it!
Perfect location for a family vacation!
This is a great house in a great location in downtown Edgartown. Short and easy to walk to town or lighthouse beach. Beautiful sunrises on the lighthouse. Platt and the house manager Heidi were fantastic and responded immediately to all our needs.

This home was truly a blessing—a peaceful getaway in every way. The house itself is beautiful, and the surrounding water is just as lovely. The sunsets were absolutely breathtaking, and the beds were some of the most comfortable we’ve ever slept in. Tim was wonderful—so knowledgeable and kind, always willing to help us out. We especially loved spending our days down by the water, which made the whole experience feel extra special. We highly recommend this place and are already looking forward to coming back next year!
If you want solitude and gorgeous views from a great house, look no further. Hosts were super nice and thoughtful. Property is stunning. They're not kidding about the 4WD - you really do need it to travel the dirt road and loose sand to get to the house. But once you get there - wow.
We had a great time at the Outermost House! Wasn't beach weather but the view from all parts of the property are stellar from morning to gazing at the stars at night. The house was very clean, lots of room for everyone. Definitely well stocked with kitchen gear to beach games/water craft. You have to have 4WD to get there but its worth it...rent a jeep if you need to! You don't need to go to Menemsha for the sunset just enjoy from the property. Tim the caretaker was a great guy with lots of good tips. We had a blast and hope to go back soon.
We spent the holiday weekend at this special property located on its own spit of land on Chappiqudick. It has all the characteristics you looking for in a beach house. Lots a gathering spaces inside and out. The 360degree views are spectacular. EVERY room has a water view. You feel like you're on a land yacht. The kitchen / bathrooms are well equipped. The garage is full of beach activity equipment. There are kayaks and small boats just waiting to be used. Many memories were made over the weekend. We would definitely rent this property again.
Great property, secluded. Kitesurfing paradise. Can kitesurf in any wind direction with flat water. Accommodations are very nice and the support from the owners is superb, any issues and they are on it immediately. I highly recommend it.
We had such an amazing time! We loved every part of our visit there. Don’t forget you need 4WD and higher ground clearance to get to the property. We loved the sunfish and kayaks...the sunsets were gorgeous...the views were second to none. And the house was perfect too! It’s ruined us though - no other beach rental will ever be able to compete! Susan was responsive and helpful anytime we had a question!

We had a wonderful stay in Vineyard Haven and truly enjoyed the house and its location. The home was comfortable, spacious, and a great fit for our family. We especially appreciated being so close to everything in Vineyard Haven while still having a peaceful place to come back to at the end of the day. The house had everything we needed for a week on Martha’s Vineyard and made it easy for us to settle in, cook meals, relax, and enjoy time together. The location was also a great home base for exploring the rest of the island, including Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, and the beaches. Communication and check-in were smooth, and everything was as expected when we arrived. We made some great family memories during our stay and would absolutely consider staying here again on a future trip to the Vineyard. Highly recommended for families looking for a comfortable and convenient home base on Martha’s Vineyard!
Great stay and a beautiful home

Fantastic location where we could walk to everything. Fabulous views. You felt like you didn't even need to leave the house. Will definitely be back again
The house has a magnificent 180 degree view of the harbor and is in a perfect location to walk to all downtown Edgartown shops/restaurants and the lighthouse (Children’s beach). Very clean and luxurious Matouk bedding and towels. The lower level den could use more lighting, the room is basked in natural sunlight but dark after sunset. We stayed off season with just us as a couple, and another couple for a total of 4 on a few nights. House was comfy and spacious for us. Would stay again.
The house was perfectly located with an amazing view, neat and clean. Bed linens and towels were wonderful Matouk. My wife has poor eyesight and more lighting in the lower den and bedrooms would be an improvement and really the only item the property could use.

Perfection! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. The views from the multiple porches made us never want to leave. Interiors were well appointed with a well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds and everything else you could want on the Vineyard. We loved the walk ability of the location. Platt was great about checking in during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed and the caretaker was prompt in responding to any questions we had. Our family looks forward to staying in the amazing location again.
